I have always loved rocks. Whether I am on the top of a mountain in the Adirondacks or on the shores of the Maine coast, I’ve always been enthralled by the landscape around me. How many millions of years ago were these magnificent rocks created? What stories do they tell? My landscapes do not just represent the elements around me, but the forces that created them. Weather, water, age and time have all had their hand in sculpting the landscapes around us. Painting for me is very physical. I apply successive layers of paint and then scrape away recent layers. I want the textures and patterns on the surfaces of my paintings to reveal hidden stories of their own, where we are, who we are, and how we fit into the world around us. I ask the viewer to stop and wonder at the beauty around us, the forces that created this beauty, and how we fit into this landscape.
