The word “Free” is etymologically linked to the word “Friend,” to be free is to be loved.
I collect Free signs that I find in my daily travels. I believe they are beautiful readymade artworks. I keep supplies in my truck so that, when I find a free sign, I can pull over, make a replacement sign and trade it for the found free sign. For this particular sign, I found the sign but I handmade the frame. I offer it in this year’s Collect Show as a way of expressing my gratitude, and of saying that you, our students, and our community are Free.
