Maya Tihtiyas Attean ’23
Through the lens of Wabanaki history and culture, my work reveals hidden truths within the landscape now called Maine. I explore relationships between land, people, and the lasting impacts of colonization, drawing attention to intergenerational trauma and the scars left on both earth and body. Nature is a catalyst in my photographic narratives, where reality and the otherworldly blur, and spirit moves freely. My work invites reflection on occupation, ownership, and the disruption of balance. Incorporating the Passamaquoddy language, I offer a visual gateway into natural and spiritual realms, honoring the resilience of Wabanaki stories. In the echo of ancestral footprints, these memories flow through the land like bloodlines—ever present, never forgotten.
