Libby Scutt ’23

Libby Scutt is a ceramist from the red clay hills of Western Pennsylvania. She is a recently graduated MECA&D alum (2023) with a BFA in Ceramics and a minor in Sustainable Ecosystems: Art & Design. In her work, Scutt questions the subjectivity of land, sustainability, and the ethics of clay as she seeks to find new ways of relating to the world. Her pieces are made through the process of coil-and-pinching to create layers that mimic geological strata. Each piece is fired to coneĀ 1 in a soda kiln, allowing for atmospheric variation and unique qualities within the work.
