Rachel Clark MFA ’25

I identify primarily as a painter, but I’ve found myself reaching beyond my brushes and easel for a media that might better convey what my lived experience has felt like. Through material processes, I focused on my feelings of anxiety and social disconnect. For this series, I created an installation of scotch tape woven across areas of transition within my home, recording my experiences through illegible marks before dismantling the tape altogether. The tape felt like my anxiety, wrapping up and clinging to itself, instead of repairing or fixing anything. While working, I discovered threads of dissonance and connection that tied this creative studio play to my painting process. I am continuing to investigate these ideas through painting with wax and oils, allowing sessions of exploration to influence my body of work as a whole.
