Julie Cunningham ’00

I am an artist and ceramics teacher living in Portland, Maine. I have been working with clay for over 20 years and enjoy teaching ceramics, including at MECA. My work is primarily hand built. I hope to express in my pieces, elements of organic forms in nature and in human gestures. By using earthenware clay, terra sigillata, and layered glazes, I seek to recreate the depth of color and texture present in the environment. Spending time outdoors with my family observing the changing hues, textures, and arrangements of nature inform my work.
