Hannah Day ’20

Hannah Day is a Portland-based artist who works primarily in painting. Immersion in natural sites, often by the ocean, heavily influences her work. Day’s studio practice is informed by a long family history in Coastal Maine, creating a continuum between the past and present. Through an exploration of color, she is in pursuit of capturing an ephemeral experience of memory related to place, self and climate. She collects materials from the landscape to use as preliminary mediums (I.e. water, soil, lichen) to “infuse the paintings with the essence of place”. Day’s process is intuitive and varies depending on the environment. Hannah’s work prompts her viewers to reimagine, reconnect and rediscover their own relationship to the landscape around them.
