Grace Hager ’15, MFA ’23

Grace Hager is a Portland, Maine-based painter and ceramicist. In 2015, she received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting with a Minor in Art History from Maine College of Art & Design. In 2021, she returned to Portland and MECA&D to pursue her Master of Fine Arts (’23). Her work locates the natural world as a realm of possibility: a source of transformative encounters that generate awe, positioning the magical within the observable world. Her recent use of prismatic light and spectral, ‘rainbow’ color used in combination with subject matter from the landscape becomes a strategy to visualize feelings of awe to affirm that life is good and always contains the potential for more moments of awe and beauty.
