Cindy MacKay ‘84

My paintings are inspired by the union of nature and my spiritual practice. With every painting I am reminded of our profound connection to nature. Every walk in the woods, along the beach, up a mountain trail in my home state of Maine or while traveling in an unfamiliar landscape in a different country or location I am informed by the natural world as the paintings reveal themselves to me. I believe there is a true expression of the divine found in particular qualities of light from dawn to dusk or in the nuanced way that water moves or reflects. Every painting created is a meditative journey for me that holds the joy of discovering and uncovering, resulting in a gift of surprise or heartfelt familiarity. My hope is that this gift is the viewers experience as well, creating an awakening and a remembering of their own connection with nature.
