Anthony Surratt MFA ’23
Anthony Surratt (MFA ’23) is a mixed-media abstract artist. While he adds multiple layers of paint, paper and other materials to his work, it is often via methods of excavation—digging, sanding, scraping, gouging—that he reveals their ultimate meanings. In creating his colorful paintings and assemblages, Anthony plays with the use, reuse and re-reuse of materials, obsessively saving remnants excavated from one painting to feed the creation of others. Before becoming a fulltime artist, he worked in corporate communications for over 25 years, primarily in the cable TV business in Atlanta and New York City. He lives in southern Vermont.
