Sharon Watterson

Sharon Watterson was born in Chicago and studied extensive life drawing and some design at The American Academy of Art, color theory at RIT and advanced painting at USM. Watterson’s work includes illustration, abstract art and calligraphy as the owner of “Lavender’s Blue.” After moving to Maine in 2004, becoming captivated by Portland’s history, she began working on a series of “Old Port” paintings. The Portland Lobster Co. on Commercial St. purchased one of the first of this series. Watterson’s background in Biblical Research has inspired her to donate paintings for the benefit of others in need — “Give and it shall be given unto you;” Luke 6:38a. She painted a pastel of fruit called “Abundance” for a silent auction, raising money for a child with Leukemia that inspired her to make other donations as well. Watterson has donated a painting of The Henry Wadsworth Longfellow House to the Maine Historical Society. The character of the home inspired the colorful painting, as it sits in the middle of a city that has changed, but remains a historic gem in downtown Portland. She has also donated calligraphy to the Victoria Mansion. Her work has been exhibited in The Roux and Cyr Gallery, The Fore Street Gallery in Portland and The Kennedy Gallery in Portsmouth, NH and sold to private clientele. Her most recent painting of The Regency Hotel was sold to the owners. She enjoys teaching art to children too!
