Piano piano is an Italian phrase that has multiple translations ranging from “slowly, slowly,” to “softly, softly” or “be quiet/gentle.” When I was traveling in Italy this fall, one of our guides (the owner and chef at Solo Italiano) used this phrase a few times as he shifted back and forth between Italian and English. I grew up playing the piano and have a vintage Steinway upright in my living room. I was immediately smitten with it and knew it would become the title of a future painting.
