Soda Fired Earthenware, 6 x 7.5 x 18in, 2023
This piece has been made from clay harvested from my family’s property in Western Pennsylvania (originally Haudenosaunee territory). Through the process of coil and pinching, each new row mimics the strata of sediments formed underground. The vessels I make hold the preservation of a moment and display the impression of its creator. Every layer is a documentation of my identity as a maker, imprinted within the clay, and is the addition of my own personal voice within history. Each piece is fired in a cone 1 soda kiln and is one of a kind.
