SQUARES
Ubiquitous in my practice
Continually appearing on paper
Over thirty-seven years on paper
I am unable to break out of the square
Thirty-seven years!
It appears, lodged in my intuition.
I try to escape the square.
I find my work now turns to tighter squares—
Squares within and on top of each other
My index and thumb on
The gel pen shakes the line trembles
I climb the side walls to break through to light.
