Jo Ophardt ’25

I live in Portland and paint from a basement in Deering. The flowers in these still lives are picked on my walk from my apartment to my studio. The gardens in Deering are a carefully controlled cartoon version of the forests that used to be there. Painting these flowers on top of a cartoon dog doubles the removals and imitations of nature that makes up my daily experience of the world.
