Elizabeth Quillen ’23
Elizabeth Quillen paints oil portraits of her family and friends. She begins by taking photographs and transferring them onto panels. Next, she creates a grisaille underpainting followed by luminous transparent glazes which build up the color, light, and life of her paintings. Her work explores imagination, performance, and childhood. Her pieces simultaneously celebrate the process of striving for perfection and the evidence of humanity in each finished work. Elizabeth Quillen graduated from Maine College of Art & Design with her BFA in Painting in 2023. She has exhibited since 2019 in shows which include the MECA&D BFA Show, the MECA&D Merit Exhibition; a group show called Sister, Mother, Madonna in 2022; and About Face, curated by Professor Philip Brou.
