Brian Smith is a Portland, Maine–based artist whose work explores speculative, oceanic futures through a queer ecological lens. His practice spans sculpture, painting, and drawing, blending myth, camp, and layered textures.
Smith holds an MFA from Maine College of Art & Design and a BFA from MassArt. His work has been exhibited across New England, in Antwerp and Austin, and is in the permanent collection of the Portland Museum of Art, where he’s currently featured in a group show. He’s been awarded grants from the Maine Arts Commission and SPACE Gallery and has been featured in Boston Art Review and the Portland Press Herald. Smith is a recent Lunder Institute Fellow and has held residencies at Monson Arts and Hewnoaks.
