Basil Hinnen ’27

As a queer trans artist, I often focus on themes of gender, sexuality, life/death, and the body. Much of what I’m currently showing does not follow those concepts as more of my preliminary work. What I enjoy about this kind of work is exploring the techniques, aesthetics, and materiality of my medium. I almost exclusively work in oil paint drawn in by the spectrum of textures I can create, ranging from velvet smooth to thickly applied layers, its vivid colors, and the discovery of techniques such as glazing.
