Vanessa White-Capelluti

Vanessa White-Capelluti is a practicing artist and retired art teacher living in South Portland, Maine. Born in upstate New York, she earned a BS with honors in Art Education from Indiana University and a MS with Honors from Massachusetts College of Art. Her paintings are based on observation, and deal with carefully curated quirky still lifes, natural settings, and images of the Portland waterfront. Drawn to subject matter that playfully engages viewers, she is attentive to the connection between elements in her compositions. Use of pattern, observation of positive and negative spaces, shapes, color, and the use of energetic brushstrokes provide structure to much of her work.
