Rick Stark SALT ’17
Rick Stark comes to metalsmithing after a variety of experiences in woodworking, blacksmithing and metalsmithing at Haystack Mountain School of Craft, Artascope, the Center for Furniture Craftsmanship and the Wooden Boat School. Using reclaimed silver and copper, he creates designs with a stamping, texturing, forming, stone setting and casting techniques inspired by natural materials, nature, and sacred geometries. Rick is committed to art education, peer-to-peer learning, and teaches introductory and specialty classes to aspiring metalsmiths at Artascope Studios in Yarmouth, Maine and academic students at the Maine College of Art & Design. Rick’s stamping and texturing designs are created using custom hardened-steel stamps, hammers, rolling mills, patinas, and heat treatments, to create custom patterns and unique pieces.
