Phil - Phil Stevens

Phil Stevens ’91

Exploring the natural world is transformative for him. I seek the sublime through nature. The images are slices of nature in a vertical format where color, form, and light combine to create a unique visual sensation. Art has been a lifelong passion he first learned from his mother. He grew up in Michigan and went to the University to study economics and accounting. Drafted into the army he was sent to Germany where he was able to visit many art museums. In 1972 he moved to Windham. In 1991 he graduated from the Maine College of Art where he studied painting under Ed Douglas and Johnnie Ross and printmaking with Jim Cambronne. He also worked at MECA until his retirement in 2020.
