Michael Fillyaw
My photography journey started 13 years ago as a Continuing Studies student at MECA&D. My subjects include city streets, the Maine coast, marshes, mountains, forests, and farmlands. I go to these places without expectations, but always with the same goals: be present in the moment, chase the light, and see what others miss. My representational and abstract images aim to capture moments of beauty and insight that are grounded in a sense of place, evoke emotions, or tell a story. I am inspired by the interface of land, water, and sky, the rhythm of the seasons, the circle of life, and the darkness on the edge of town.
