Kathleen Galligan
Educated in the field of Illustration at Philadelphia College of Art, I have painted representational landscapes in pastels since the early 1980s and have exhibited my work in California, Pennsylvania, New York, Maine and France. Highlights in my professional career have included a month-long residency at YADDO, and a two-week residency at Acadia National Park, work included in some publications and museums.
Now, I often paint distillations of the natural world, or more representational, but mood-based atmospheric landscapes in oils as my preferred medium. This medium allows for an exploratory give and take relationship in my surfaces, applying paint and scraping down layers. I enjoy painting with gestures and mark-making to connect the visible and invisible, and the real and imagined worlds in nature, so as not to make a literal interpretation of a place.
