Evelyn Wong MFA ’19

Portland-based artist Evelyn Wong creates beautifully crafted gifts and handbound books. Wong’s business, Fireball Bookbindery, celebrates her Asian American identity and was featured in the Winter 2021-2022 issue of Maine Homes by Down East Magazine. Her work is inspired by authentic Asian materials, the vibrant colors of Asian designs, and the often cheeky attitudes of ABC (American-Born Chinese) Millennials.

Wong received their BFA from the University of South Carolina, and MFA from Maine College of Art & Design where they teach book arts, papermaking, and art entrepreneurship. Wong is also an advocate and educator for artistic, social, and environmental responsibility, and supports organizations like the Xerces Society for Invertebrate Conservation and AAPI Women Lead.
