Aaron Staples ’08

My work is a meditation on the divinity found within organic forms produced in the environment. My goal is to capture the implicit geometry and fluid architecture of the natural world. Using brush and sumi ink on archival rag paper, I allow there ink’s flow to shape the evolution of the piece, each mark informing the next in an attempt to capture the structured chaos of nature. This process intentionally mirrors the organic growth and anatomical logic of the subject. Each form develops to emerge as a documentation of the interplay of design and entropy inherent in nature’s forms.
By translating these environmental patterns into ink, I strive to transcribe the sophistication and effortless beauty found within the environment. This practice I intended to elevate the overlooked structures of our world, moving beyond their simple context to reveal an elegant intricacy. Ultimately, these drawings are an homage to nature’s constructions, inviting a deeper look at the complex beauty inherent in the growth and form of the living world.
